Amalfi Coast

Another early day. But this view is reward enough. The Vesuv is definitely a sight. And we are lucky our bed room window faces the city and has such a fantastic view... I don't want to leave. Ever!

Ich will nie wieder weg!

The trip to Amalfi didn't start so well. We missed the train and had to wait for an hour. Then we had to catch a bus which was delayed by 45 minutes and when it came it filled with tourists and students till there was no moving. The ride was about an hour, curvy streets along the coast with a profound abyss right next to us. It was hot inside the bus and those poor students have to travel home from school every day with a bunch of tourists, standing in a bus for an hour... I hate bus rides, especially the long ones... I survived and arrived at Amalfi, a sweet little town, crowded with tourists. But we threw ourselves into the next bus to Ravello so we could walk back to Amalfi. A little walking doesn't hurt after such a ride...

It looks a lot like Bulgaria, the countryside where my grandparents live (except they don't have the ocean for a view). It even smells like in Bulgaria, minty and like hay and herbs.
We went hiking/walking and took the wrong way once, so we ended on top of some mountain. Good thing we didn't go any further or else we might have slept outside that night. So we went all the way back, passing pigs, goats and dogs, orchards and vegetable gardens. Some pony was rolling in the dirt. A boy came riding a donkey. Very rural. And very nice. At least nice to look at. But there are many things that look so romantic and nice but when you have to live there things are different and there is nothing romantic about riding a donkey, feeding the piggies and riding to school for an hour in a crowded bus, no wifi of course.

Ice cream in Amalfi is no good. The one in Florence and Capri was heaven and a million times better.

Amalfi-Eis.

Bye-bye Amalfi, bye-bye Italy.

Next Stop: Bulgaria.

Capri for a day

I insisted on going to Capri. It's too beautiful to not go! Early birds have a big advantage here. The ferry  leaves at around 7 o'clock so we walked there from our hostel in about 45 Minutes. A little break at my go-to bakery to grab some breakfast for later. In the harbor there are those ginormous cruise ships! Very impressive.

Ziemlich beeindruckend.

Breakfast./ Frühstück.

Capri. So beautiful! We were a bit startled when the big cruise ship groups arrived at around 10 o'clock. All of a sudden the small town was so crowded.
When I become rich I will come here for winter residence, in one of the hotels where former presidents and other famous people stayed at. You can enjoy shopping there as well, Dolce & Gabbana have a lovely shop and some others as well. So no worries about getting bored or not staying up to date with fashion.

Capri. So schön.

Swimming by the light house of Capri. It was somewhat adventurous to get there, with the bus to the other side of the island, but it was sure worth it! We were alone with only italian speakers and a wedding at the restaurant above.

Capri, I'm coming back soon! Living in Naples and going to Capri for the Weekend will be just fine with me. Sponsors?!

Sponsoren?!

I wish I could make those pictures bigger, but blogger won't let me unless I have them "Original size" which is a lot bigger, like the last picture...

In Love With Naples

Naples is definitely my favorite city in Italy so far. It's so alive with people who actually live there. Unlike Rome or Florence, where you are just confronted with street vendors and a sea of tourists.
Our hostel in Naples was lovely as well! On top of a hill with such an amazing view! Down the hill is a market where you can buy all the fresh fruit and all kind of other things, like cell phone chargers and sunglasses... I fell in love with a bakery! They have the most amazing croissants filled with chocolate and jam, super soft and juicy tea-cake, and just everything breakfast could possibly be. And the sizes were so absolutely perfect! In Stuttgart the sweet pastries have the size of my face and after two bites you are already planning on how to get rid of it... Find some friends to share, stuff it in your bag to find it 4 hours later, completely soaked through the paper bag... first world problems.

In guter Portionsgröße!

We were 4 days in Naples but one was spend on a trip to Capri and one on the Amalfi-coast. There is not much to see in Naples, but so much to live, to eat, to relax and savor. Hang out in a park, sit by the sea, enjoy some coffee at a cafe, roam the streets. Such a charming city!

Rome sweet Rome

When in Rome, visiting ancient roman sites seems to be a must! The colosseum is sure interesting and super high tech. They used to flood the arena and have sea battles in there... and of famous gladiators were fighting in there as well...

Rome is somewhat crowded. All the interesting sights are flooded with people. Many Americans...

Rom ist ziemlich voll. Alles was halbwegs interessant aussieht ist voll mit Menschen. Viele Amerikaner...
Good food, a MUST. Saltimbocca ala Romana! Melting in my mouth! Alex set a goal to have one pizza a day.

Gut Essen war natürlich Pflicht. Saltimbocca ala Romana! In ordentlich Fettsoße.
We had a tour through the vatican and went into the St. Peter's Basilika afterwards. It's sure worth the visit. You can spend a whole day in there, but only if your feet will carry you all day...

Nothing beats a slice of watermelon by the water. Happy girl.

Wassermelone am Nachmittag! Ich bin so einfach glücklich zu machen!
Walking through the cities more quiet areas.

Spaziergang durch die ruhigeren Ecken Roms.
You can see the Basilika in the back! So beautiful! And the best is, it is still warm outside. Italian weather, I like you a lot!

 Night life.
Still thinking about becoming a writer and moving south to enjoy life.

Firenze in two days

We took a flight to Florence/Firenze. The first day way cloudy but the city is still impressive. The amount of people there is just something!

Food in Firenze is expensive but OH SO GOOD! The best ice cream, Panini with fresh mozzarella and prosciutto, Pizza, Pizza every day! I don't regret a thing!

The Cathedral of Firenze.

Im Dom von Florenz.

Ice cream makes you happy, thats what they say.

Ein Eis am Tag macht glücklich, habe ich mir sagen lassen: "You can't buy happiness, but you can buy gelato!"

Ponte Vecchio on the first day. First I was not impressed at all, but you fall in love easily with this unique bridge.

This is the bridge. They sell expensive jewelry everywhere and it's hard to tell you are actually on a bridge.

The view over Firenze. I almost bought an umbrella that looked like the dome, but I got distracted with looking for the perfect leather bag, didn't find one though... Not enough time for looking.

Officially prosciutto-addicted.

Salat. Ich bin Prosciutto-süchtig.

Ponte Vecchio on out first evening. My new camera definitely showed some talent.

Next Day.

The best Paninis in Firenze! Not expensive but sooo so good. Ham, cheese, a glas of wine for lunch. And the owner is so charming!

We went to see the Uffizien, the most important art collection on Firenze. Collected by the Medici-family. We were not allowed to take pictures inside, but on the terrace the view is beautiful.

Ponte Vecchio again. Definitively the highlight of the city (beside the food). It's just so beautiful, day and night. You can sit there, enjoy some ice cream and watch the scene.

So schön.

i didn't want to leave Firenze. The food was just so good, and the ice cream! And it is just the perfect walkable city, because it is so small in the center and all the nice things are close together.

Next Stop: Rome

Travel Season First Stop: Italy

My exams are almost over (on September 17th) and after those 3 month of paper writing and exams I am glad I can finally focus on the important things in life: travel
My travel plans have developed over the last months and I am pleased with the outcome. It's a rather unexpected development, but I am just the more excited about it. Every month a new destination, culinary adventures, to the end of the world and back. Sounds like a plan.

First Stop in September: Italy
The rout for the 10 days ahead is Firenze, Rome, Naples and Capri.

Florenz, Rom, Neapel, CAPRI

Pictures thanks to google maps./Bilder dank Google Maps.

A good opportunity to test my new camera and get used to it. And of course enjoy life in Bella Italia.

We will travel by train. As we did it this way in Korea and Japan and it worked out really well. I thought Japan was an expensive place to travel to, but now that we booked out hotels in Italy, I think I will re-think my opinion in this matter. A good reason to travel to Japan again. And Korea, and China and so many more. But this has to wait until 2014. Good thing the world is so big, there are still lots of places to see and explore. Always a good excuse to go out and travel.

Places I Found and Liked in Stuttgart - La Bruschetta

La Bruschetta is an Italian "Restaurant" which you can see in the first picture. It's about 20qm large and has about 6 seats. So everybody just sits outside. And there is an art gallery close by where they also put up seats. It's crazy. There is this Italian Lady and she does everything on her own! And it is absolutely delicious!!!
She serves pizza, pasta, salads and anti pasti, everything home made of course!
The pictures are so bad because I took them with my phone. My cameras battery was dead....
The mixed salad comes with grilled veggies.
Pizza. We watched her cut the ham from a huge chunk! Tasted so so good !
Home made pasta. With grilled veggies and a super thick sauce. Exactly what I wanted (even though I am not supposed to consume milk and cream, but there wasn't much in there anyway since I was fine afterwards).
Selbst gemachte Pasta.
 Ready, steady, go!
I decided to try a new place at least once a week! This is nothing my mom and my bankaccount like to hear, but this way I can make sure I go out at least once a week. And there are tons of neighborhood cafes and restaurants I want to try. Small and amazing places just like this one! The food must be authentic at La Bruschetta since a lot of Italian speakers came to eat or to take out. I am very pleased with my choice. Thou maybe next time I'll try to come here earlier, the food is really filling!
