Jeju Diary Part II

Ich habe noch gar nicht von unserem "Hostel" erzählt... nennen wir es nicht Hostel, denn als wir ankamen standen wir in dem Wohnzimmer von irgendeinem Kerl. Er hat auch irgendwann erzählt, dass er immer Couch-Surfen gemacht hat, aber das ist unbezahlt und deswegen nimmt er jetzt 15€ die Nacht, die Leute hätten ihn arm gemacht. Er hat uns ja auch netter Weise vom Flughafen abgeholt, aber selbst wenn wir ein Taxi hätten nehmen wollen wäre das nicht gegangen weil die im Internet angegebene Adresse gar nicht gestimmt hat. Und es war im 2. Stock eines Wohngebäudes, also no chance. Als wir ankamen sagt er noch "Ich hoffe ihr mögt Katzen, ich hab eine." Das wäre des Katzenallergikers Tod gewesen! Meiner nicht, Rosas auch nicht. Die Katze hat die gesamte Situation gerettet. Das mit bezahlte "American Breakfast" war Toast und Marmelade. Beides Selbstbedienung. Toaster is da hinten, Teller dort. Messer gibt's keine. Alles klar. Er hat uns Schlüssel gegeben und musste dann leider weg weil er ganz busy ist. Er macht bezahlte Touren über die Insel und wir vermuten er hat noch eine andere Wohnung voll mit Leuten gehabt denen er tatsächlich auch Frühstück gemacht hat. Arsch. Wir haben uns French Toast mit Sirup gemacht und einmal koreanische Hefe-Pfannkuchen (die nicht ganz gelungen sind aber trotzdem klasse waren).
Aber wir haben uns den Urlaub nicht vermiesen lassen, waren ja sowieso kaum dort.
I didn't write about the "hostel" yet... let's not call it a hostel. We arrived and set foot into somebody elses living room, messy living room. He even told us he did couch surfing but the people made him poor so now he wants $22 a night. It was nice that he got us from the airport, the taxi wasn't expensive either but we would have never found it. The address from the internet was wrong anyways and it is on the 2. floor of an apartment building, so no chance of finding it. When we arrived he said "I hope you like cats!" Good thing none of us is allergic, we would have died. But since we both love cats the cat saved the whole stay there. The "american breakfast" was toast and jam. Selfservice. He gave us the keys and left because he is "very busy these days". He does guided tours and we think he has a second hostel where he had to do the breakfast. So we made french toast or pancakes every morning. So Yummie.
So our trip was still amazing and we didn't bother much with the accommodation, we didn't spend much time there anyways.

Nach unserem fantastischen, selbst gemachten Frühstück ging es los zum östlichen Teil der Insel. Die Busfahrt an der Küste entlang war hin auch schön (nur zurück war ein Elend). Angekommen hatten wir uns vorgenommen den Seongsan Ichulbong zu erklimmen. Das ist ein Vulkanüberbleibsel, eine Art Krater, der komplett mit Gras überzogen ist. Bekannt ist er bei den Koreanern als klasse Aussichtspunkt für einen Sonnenaufgang. Aber das soll brechend voll sein, deswegen sind wir mittags hoch gestiegen. 

Aber kein Bergsteigen ohne ordentliches Mittagessen.

After a fantastic self made breakfast we went to the most eastern point of Jeju, to the vulcano crater Seongsan Ichulbong. It's famous amongst Koreans for a beautiful sunrise. But since it's supposed to be super backed in the morning we decided to go during the day. But no hiking without lunch.

Der Zipfel im Osten, auf dem Ichulbong steht, da waren wir. Und auf Udo, der Insel direkt darüber.

To the east, Ichulbong is underneath the island Udo. We went there as well.

JaJaMyong. Ein chinesisches Gericht das aus Nudeln und der schwarze Bohnen Souce besteht. Drin sind ein paar Zwiebelstückchen, etwas Gemüse und ein bisschen Fleisch.
JajaMyong. A Chinese dish which is basically nudels and black bean sauce. Some onions, veggies and meat is in there as well.

Rosas BokkumBab. Gebratener Reis mit Möhren- und Frühlingszwiebelstückchen und natürlich einem gebratenen Ei. War wohl etwas trocken, sieht auch so aus. Die "PanChan" (Beilagen) waren auch nich so...
Rosas BokkumBab. Fried Rice with carrot and spring onion and of course a fried egg. Kinda dry. The "panchan" (side dishes) were not that good either.

Das Ziel war etwas enttäuschend. Wir kamen an und haben erstmal auf diese Aussichtstribüne geschaut, bis wir gemerkt haben, dass wir IM Krater stehen.
The top of the volcano was disappointing. We came to the top of this platform and went down. The we realized that were were standing INSIDE of the crater.

So sieht er aus. Hätte jemand gesagt ich bin in der Schweiz auf ner Alm hätte ich das auch geglaubt. Da hat einer im Krater seine Felder beackert...
That's what the crater looks like. If somebody told me I was in Switzerland I would have believed it. A guy was farming inside the crater...

So sollte der Pott aussehen. Die Tribüne haben sie wohl weg gezaubert.

Also runter vom Berg und rauf auf die Insel. Udo. Sieht angeblich aus wie eine liegende Kuh. Mit viel Phantasie. Aber mit viel weniger Phantasie sieht sie auch aus wie ein gewöhnliche Insel...
So down the hill, to the island. Udo. They say it looks like a cow lying in the grass. With a lot of phantasy maybe.

 Bus? Hmmm. Nein.

Take the bus? Let me think...hmm. No.

 Das sieht doch nach viel mehr Spaß aus. Brum Brum.

Uh, parken und ab zum Strand. So sieht Urlaub aus.

Park the baby and off to the beach. That's vacation time.

Der gewöhnliche Koreaner ist ja mit Dreibein und Spiegelreflex am Strand. Ohne Handtuch und ohne Bikini.
Koreans like to take pictures, they come to the beach with their tripod and a SLR. No towels, no swim suits.

Wir sind ja keine Koreaner.

Well, we're not Korean, you can tell.

 Frischer Kiwisaft, Sonne, Meer, Ruhe. Glückseligkeit.

Fresh made Kiwi juice, sun, ocean, quietness. 

Mit Bauhelm fühle ich mich natürlich doppelt sicher.

I feel extremely save w/ my construction helmet.

Dafür, dass meine Kamera keine 10kg schwere Spiegelreflex mit Teleskop-Objektiv ist, macht sie geniale Fotos. Oder liegt das an meinem unglaublichen Talent?!
My camera might not be a SLR but it takes pretty amazing pictures sometimes. Or is it my talent?

Die Armen Omis haben den ganzen Tag auf den Feldern auf Udo verbracht und fahren mit uns mit der letzten Fähre um 18 Uhr zurück nach Jeju. Diese Art Kopfbedeckung ist in Korea auch unter der nicht landwirtschaftlich tätigen Bevölkerung beliebt. Vor allem bei wandernden Frauen...

The grannies go to work on fields every day on Udo and return to Jeju with the last ferry at 6 pm. That's a pretty tough life. Those hats are not unusual here, especially hiking women wear them.
