Yangpyeong

The International Office arranged a cultural excursion for all the international students this saturday. At 8 am, which was way to early for me, we all met at the University and got on the busses to have a 2 hour ride to Yangpyeong. Yangpyeong is a small village close to the mountains.
We started with a little introduction of the town, which took forever, since they were speaking in korean, english and chinese. So it was basically lots of tired students and 3 guys in front talking.

After the intro, we started with making pretty rice cakes. The big balls are the rice cake dough, we had to form it and afterwards it was backed and we could take them home. It was fun making the colorful figures, but they don't taste good...

Rosa made a wish, she wants me to not post any pictures of here anymore where she has no eyebrows or to bad circles under her eyes. Might be difficult. I thought after University starts we might have a rhythm and go to bed early, wake up early. But thats not happening, the early to bed thing.

After our little rice cake session we made Tofu. Its not very difficult, it just takes long. After the beans are grinded you put the grinded bean stuff in a cotton bag so the water can come out.

Then you boil the cotton bag and let it sit in hot water for 12 hours, then the tofu is made. Done. This is the result which you can eat the way it is. In the stores they only sell tofu that is compressed.

Frau beim Tofu machen.
One of the ladies making the tofu.
We tried the tofu. Without sauce it doesn't taste much like anything. With sauce it was good, but the garlic was a bit too much for me.
Nach der Tofu-Verkostung gabs Mittagessen. Nail mit seinem Bibimbab-Festmahl.
After trying tofu, we had lunch. Nail with his Bibimbab.

Unsere fertigen Reiskuchen. Mit Sesamöl eingefettet. Nicht lecker.
Our rice cakes with sesame oil. Not good.

The weather was weird. In Seoul it was raining, in Yangpyeong it was a mix between sun and extremly cloudy rainy weather.

In between the sun was shining and the weather was just so nice. At the Yongmunsa Temple it was sunny as well, at least in the beginning.

SNOW!

At the Temple was also a Templestay where small groups and school classes come and experience what life in a is like.

We just made it in time down the mountain back to the bus. When we arrived at the bottom of the mountain it started snowing heavily and the wind was blowing like crazy.

So back to the bus as fast as possible and back to Seoul. Here the weather was not bad at all. Maybe cold but sunny.

Zum Aufwärmen gab es Tee und Waffel.
To warm up I got a waffle and tea :)

The End.
